Push Plate Clutch Basics
I. Structure and Components
A push plate clutch consists of a driving plate, a driven plate, a pressure plate, a release bearing, and an operating mechanism. The driving plate is connected to the engine crankshaft via a spline. The driven plate is inlaid with friction material and transmits power via the transmission input shaft. The pressure plate engages the two plates under spring pressure.
II. Working Process
Engaged: When the driver releases the pedal, the pressure plate spring compresses the driving and driven plates, generating torque through friction.
Disengaged: When the pedal is depressed, the release bearing retracts the pressure plate, cutting off power transmission.
Semi-clutched: Controls the clamping force based on pedal travel to adjust the speed difference, making it suitable for starting or shifting.
III. Technical Features
Friction Material: Typically made of asbestos-based or ceramic composite materials, with a temperature resistance of up to 350°C.
Heat Capacity: Continuous semi-clutching can easily lead to thermal decay, requiring the use of heat dissipation holes.
Torque Capacity: Proportional to the friction plate area and clamping force. Heavy-duty vehicles use a multi-plate structure.
